Jiveocity ("we," "us," or "our") operates the Jiveocity mobile application and related website. This page explains what information we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have when using our social discovery app.
1. Information we collect
When you create an account, we collect:
- Account information: Name, email address, phone number (if used for signup), date of birth
- Profile information: Photos, bio, profession, education, interests, city
- Location data: Approximate GPS coordinates used to show nearby places and check you in to a place
- Check-in data: Which places you check in to, and when
- Usage data: Likes, mutual connections, group chat messages at places you're checked into
- Device information: Device type, operating system, push notification tokens
2. How we use your information
We use your information to:
- Create and maintain your account
- Show your profile and check-in status to other users at the same place
- Let you discover nearby places and people
- Enable likes, one-to-one conversations, and group chat at places you're checked into
- Send notifications about likes, new messages, and activity at your check-in
- Send transactional emails (verification, account-related notices)
- Improve our services and investigate safety issues
- Enforce our Terms of Service and protect user safety
3. Information sharing
We do not sell your personal information. We may share information with:
- Other users: Your profile information (name, age, photos, bio) is visible to other users. When you check in to a place, other users checked in to the same place can see your profile and chat with you in that place's group chat.
- Service providers: We use third-party services for authentication (Supabase), email delivery (Postmark), phone verification (Twilio), place data and maps (Google Places / Google Maps), and push notifications (Firebase Cloud Messaging).
- Legal requirements: We may disclose information if required by law or to protect user safety.
4. Data storage & security
Your data is stored securely using Supabase's infrastructure with row-level security policies. Photos are stored in encrypted cloud storage. We use industry-standard security measures to protect your information, but no method of transmission or storage is 100% secure.
5. Your rights
You have the right to:
- Access your personal data through the app
- Update your profile information at any time
- Delete your account through the app settings
- Request a copy of your data by contacting support
6. Location data
We collect location data only when you explicitly grant permission. Your location is used to show you nearby places, determine when you're physically at a place you're checking in to, and display your city on your profile. You can revoke location permissions at any time through your device settings. If you revoke location, you will not be able to check in to places.
7. Check-ins and visibility
When you check in to a place, your profile and display name become visible to other users also checked in there. You can check out at any time, or set your account to ghost mode to hide your check-in from other users.
8. Push notifications
We send push notifications for new likes, messages, and activity at places you're checked into. You can manage notification preferences in the app settings or disable them through your device settings.
9. Age restriction
Jiveocity is intended for users aged 18 and older. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone under the age of 18. If we discover that we have collected information from a minor, we will delete it immediately.
10. Data retention
We retain your data for as long as your account is active. When you delete your account, your profile is deactivated and no longer visible to other users. We may retain certain data for legitimate business purposes, safety investigations, and legal compliance.
11. International data transfers
Your data may be transferred to and processed in the United States, where our servers are located. By using Jiveocity, you consent to the transfer of your information to the United States and other countries that may have different data protection laws than your country of residence.
12. European users (GDPR)
If you are located in the European Economic Area (EEA), United Kingdom, or Switzerland, you have additional rights under the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR):
- Legal basis: We process your data based on your consent (account creation), contractual necessity (providing our service), and legitimate interests (improving our service, safety).
- Right to access: Request a copy of all personal data we hold about you.
- Right to rectification: Correct inaccurate personal data.
- Right to erasure: Request deletion of your personal data.
- Right to restriction: Request we limit processing of your data.
- Right to data portability: Receive your data in a machine-readable format.
- Right to object: Object to processing based on legitimate interests.
- Right to withdraw consent: Withdraw consent at any time by deleting your account.
